Home Care Aid

Home health aides provide basic personal care to clients. Primarily, they assist with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and other hygiene needs, in addition to preparing meals and helping patients eat. They may perform light housekeeping duties such as laundry, in addition to grocery shopping and providing transportation. Our classes are fully accredited 75-hour program comprised of 63 classroom hours and 12 hours of skills. Individuals who graduate earn a home care aid certificate, mental health certificate, dementia certificate, safety and orientation certificate, nurse delegation/ nurse delegation diabetes. Tuition is $600, Registration is $75, Book cost is $50, and the total cost of the course $725.

Home Care Aid Requirements

Passing grades on entrance exam (English reading, writing, and comprehension). The exam is given on the first day of class

Have no back problems that prevent safe lifting of at least 50 pounds

At the end of the course, students are given an exam in which they are expected to score 80% or higher to pass the class.

HCA Application & Licensing

The Department of Health approves and renews Home Care Aide licenses.

If you are hired as a new Home Care Aide, you must apply for your HCA license within two weeks of your hire date.  You must submit the following items to the Department of Health, Home Care Aide Credentialing at P.O. Box 1099, Olympia, WA 98507:

Application fee $85 (check or money order made out to Department of Health)

Complete a DSHS approved 75-hour training program. Then send a copy (do NOT send your originals, they will not be returned) of the following documents to Home Care Aide Credentialing at P.O. Box 47877, Olympia, WA 98504:

Orientation & Safety training certificate

Core Basic training certificate

Mental Health certificate

Dementia certificate

75-hour training certificate

After receiving your fee and certificates, you will receive a testing date.
